How Toy Story
Inspired Me To Study Media
Aspects to the movie Toy
Story that interested me were :
Colour- The colour was an aspect that
really stood out to me, especially because the movie was created in a 3D medium.
Since the movie was targeted towards younger viewers (children) the creators
used primary colours which were very bright and stood out.
3D Animation- Toy Story was created
using 3D animation, which means all of the visual aspects (characters,
backgrounds & lighting were created using 3D animation software on a
computer. The fact that Toy Story was created in a 3D medium made it very
aesthetically appealing, the smooth toy like look of the character enhanced the
characters as it made them look like very realistic toys.
Voice Acting & ADR- Toy Story used quite a lot of
ADR technology for its movie. Voice is the way the actors record their lines in
an animated movie, it is done by an actor going into a recording room and
speaking their lines into a microphone the voice acting was very good quality
as it seems very natural; the movie also had cast members that suited each of
their characters very well.
Characters- The movie consisted of quite a variety of
characters, which were all very unique, each character had his/her own personality,
one of the main protagonists Sheriff Woody contrasts the other main
protagonist, Buzz Light-year in a way that highlights his personality.
Structure & Story- Toy Story was an animation
targeted towards children however, the movie consisted of a plot that could be
enjoyed by viewers of all ages. The structure of the movie was very interesting
as it had a simple introduction, a climactic build up and a great resolution.
Toy Story was the first full-length 3D animated film
ever made. The reason behind why there were no other 3D animated movies made
prior to it were because certain studios thought it would cost them too much
money and that they would receive very little profit in return.
The movie was made by
Pixar, a company that make animated movies quite often they, consistently
update the visual element to each of their animated movies. The animation of
the characters becomes much more detailed with each new movie they create, the
lighting looks like it becomes improved and suits each of the movies scenes and
tone much better.
Toy Story won many awards
including: 1 Academy Award, 1 Annie
Award, 1 Online Film & Television Association Award and many more.
