Claymation
Claymation is a form of animation that dates back as far as 1857 which, is the year plasticine was invented. The earliest example of claymation would be The Sculptors'b Nightmare, a claymation production which is a spoof on the presidential election of 1908. In the 1950's a man called Art Chokey starting producing claymation advertising films, he later went on to create the Gumby and television show, which became very well known.
The process of claymation involves creating characters out of clay, placing them on sets, creating and capturing the frame of the animation and then repeating the process for the next frame. The process of claymation is very time consuming however, the final product become aesthetically appealing. Many famous companies such as Aardman Studios and Laika Studios use the process for their productions.

What makes Claymation a breakthrough in animation is the fact that it is a very niche form of animation. there are a few different types and styles of animation including 3D animated, 2D animated and stop motion. Claymation is not the most mainstream of these styles of animation or the most popular however, it gives viewers that want to watch a different style of animation something interesting and aesthetically different to watch.
