3D Animation

In 1982 Walt Disney Pictures created Tron, the first movie to utilise 3D CGI animation in a feature film. This animation caught the eye of Disney animator and John Lasseter. In 1976 George Lucas gathered a team of people that were skilled with using a computer to create a group for Lucas Films' Computer Graphics division. At this studio John Lasseter had started working with the team to develop a short film the division was creating called the Adventures of Andre and Wally B. In the future years to come after the release of quite a few 3D animated movies, 3D animation had become very popular amongst viewers. As a result Disney Animation merged with the leading 3D animation company (Pixar Studios) in 2006 and stopped creating 2D feature films. The movieFinding Dory was created by 3D animation studio Pixar, the movie generated over 1 billion dollars in the box office. 3D animation is created through the use of special software on computers such as character rigging software, background creating software, lighting software and many other types of software to create and render a movie in 3D.

The style of animation is a breakthrough because it captivated viewers as it was a aesthetically appealing form of animation that was different from the 2D style of animation viewers were use to seeing.
